Ways to Book the Cheapest Flights Possible

4. Search Single Seats

Even if you are traveling as a group, it may be cheaper to buy each ticket individually, even for the same flight. This is not always true, but it’s always worth it to search both ways (as a group and one-at-a-time). It works because airlines set different prices for different seats on the same plane! When a group of seats are sold together, the airline often charges the highest price among the group for all the seats. Purchased separately, one or more of the seats could cost less.

If you are flying as a family, note that some airlines offer discounts for young fliers. If the airline you choose does this, it is almost always cheaper to book as a group. The single-seat strategy also only works if everyone in your party is mature enough to sit separately. While you might be able to book individual seats that are next to each other, there’s no guarantee.
